ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Commssion - a public sector involved in oil and gas exploration) was formed on 14th August, 1956 by an Act of Parliament.
ONGC turned into a statutory body with enhanced powers by another Act (43 of 1959) of Parliament in 1959.
On 1st February, 1994. Oil & Natural Gas Commission becomes a public limited Company and acquires the status of a Corporation - Oil and Natural Gas Corporation limited.
